Area Calculation Extents Using Room Tag

HI all,

As a brief introduction, I have been using Revit for about a year now in a small (5 person) architectural firm. My duties involve mostly renderings and web design as well as architectural design and working drawings. Before Revit I was frequently using Accurender alongside Acad 2000 to produce complex building renderings that took way too long. So having Revit has been a Godsend for the building modelling aspect. We're slowly implementing the progrom for all employees here - so far it's just me, but I will be "training" the others as they get into it. Although I know most of the basics, I still run into hang-ups now and again - don't we all?

Now for the question:

I know that the Room Tag function produces an area up to the wall face in the spaces that it is placed. Is there a way to make the Room Tag determine the area with the boundary being the CENTRELINE of the walls?

Room tags are primarily intended for 'finish' calcs, hence the inside of wall measure. If you look into using area tags and creating area plans you have much more control and flexibility in placing the boundary lines. All can be scheduled quite easily as well.

You also have the option of turning off the "room bounding" of a wall in the properties box and placing your own room seperation line where you want it to be. I use this technique for special situations where it is important to get to a wall centerline area, but I would not recommend doing it on a project basis.

Thanks for the replies. I am currently working with the area plans, and that last tip was much needed about the walls as room bounding or not. I could have used that months ago!
