Recently my hatch dialog box has disappeared. Every time I envoke the hatch command, I have to follow the command prompt rather than the dialog box. Any idea if this is a simple variable setting, and if so, what is it.

Try the FILEDIA system variable
1 = dialog boxes
0 = no dialog boxes

FILEDIA has no effect on command dialog boxes. FILEDIA controls display of FILE DIAlogs
To the OP - are you using the ._HATCH command (not using a - prefix)?
What about ._BHATCH?
What about ._GRADIENT
What do those commands do?
(Be sure to use the ._ prefix)

You might want to take a look at this thread ( Missing: dialog boxes ).
Have a good one, Mike

It's a bug I have described in various Bug Watch articles (http://gis.cadalyst.com/gis/search/applianceSearchResults.jsp?order=r&query=gis+%22a+lack+of+dialog%22¬q=&submit.x=62&submit.y=10). It has been there since 2006, and is frequently (but not always) associated with use of Xerox plot devices. Do you have one of those?

Thanks for the replies. Unfortunately I still have the problem, must be a bug that Steve describes. However, we do no have any xerox printers in the office. The problem I have in addition is that it wont go away even if i re-start the computer.

Is Hatch the only thing broken? How about the ClassicXref command?

Steve. This bug somehow slipped my mind until your post...
We had the same problem here with HATCH, XREF, and a few other commands. Working with Autodesk, we found the common factor was "plotting to file". I never could get it to repeat on demand, but sure enough after a few plots (while plotting to file instead of to a port), those commands would stop working. An AutoCAD restart would fix it of course.

To reply to Steve, yep, it's only the hatch dialog. All others are working fine. The other thing is this, when I double click on a hatch element, the dialog box appears for editing the hatch properties, but not for new hatch. If all else fails, I'm just gonna re-install CAD, hopefully that'll fix em!
Thanks everyone for your efforts.

Yes, it looks like yours is quite different from the "Lack of Dialog" bug, and a repair or reinstall would be the first thing to try.
