Hi group,
I found a technique recently for dealing with multiple instances of an in-place family. If the in-place family is arrayed or copied to different locations with various rotation angles and the family needs to remain the same, I simply copy the first one (to remove the constraints) and then group it. Then is can be copied to where it needs to be. If any of the group's families are edited, all of them will be updated.
I believe that this may be easier to do with externally made families, however, the external family would need to be edited outside of the main file, and then re-inserted into the main file everytime it is changed.
