I'm just getting started with ABS no training or manuals. But here it is.

Looks like a rather large project.

31,968 SQ FT addition. This is a personal project for the owner of our company. He likes to ride horses so I'm adding a 300' x 72' riding arena, a bull pen and an indoor exercise ring. I've been trying to show the ribs in the sheet metal but I'm not sure how to do it (I'm very new to ABS) in a rendering. When time has permitted I've been looking around but haven't found what I'm looking for. I took a picture of the sample sheet metal and played with viz render but I couldn't get the new material to take effect.

Scott, if you want the very time comsuming answer (I've had to do this before), create a mass element from a profile of the sheet. They copy it over and over, trim the gables and apply a metal paint material to it. It will take longer to do, but you'll be much happier with the results.

I don't fully get how to do this. I created a mass element of the roof and tried to change the material but then its not the right color. I would like to see the ribbed look, currently all my renderings are smooth.
Do you know where there's a tutorial on material creation? Do you know how to apply a picture as a material or where to find out how? I tried in viz render to make a material from a picture but it didn't work. :(

I believe Mr. Peterson was suggesting that you actually model the ribs, rather than apply a material that would "look like" ribs in a rendering. Either approach should work; which to use would depend upon the quality of the rendering, how prominent the roof is in the rendering, the hardware being used to do the rendering and how long you are willing to wait for a rendering to be completed.

That's what I was suggesting. Again, it's going to take a while, but the results come out much better than anything else I've seen. See attached mass element style.
