View Full Version : Hide lines that make up Floating Viewports

Really basic one to start with i'm afraid. I have created a viewport in the layout space but i can't hide the lines that make up the viewport. Does anyone know how I can do this or am I going about creating this space completely wrong.

Hi stephen.egerton

Please note I've *moved* this Topic (Thread) from the New Users Forum (http://forums.augi.com/forumdisplay.php?f=47) to this one as I believe it would be better served here.

Thanks, Mike

Hi

Take a look at creating a Layer for your Floating Viewports -> Place the Floating Viewports on that Layer -> Either turn *Off* *Freeze* *No Plot* (or any combination) your Floating Viewport Layer.

Another way is to place the Floating Viewports on the Defpoints Layer as this Layer doesn't Plot (personally I wouldn't go down that route, though it does work).

Have a good one, Mike

When I need to turn off the red lines that are the viewport's border i turn off the layer "AM_VIEWS"

Hope this helps you,
Rich

You could also create a layer just for the viewports and set it not to plot. that way no matter what theyre set at they wont shop up on the printed sheet.

Mike,
I would really like to know why you do not choose to place the viewport layers on defpoints.
The layer is in all drawings, once a dimension is used, it never plots, it is always (almost) visible and can always be selected and moved.
My group never has to remember to select 'no plot', nor freeze or lock.

What are the disadvantages of using the defpoints layer?

Thanks,

Jerry

Hi

Is just really personal preference + I don't believe it's good CAD practice, the Defpoints Layer was *not* created/meant for such use.....

ID: TS64542 - Program stops functioning during REGEN when the Defpoints layer is frozen (http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS64542)

ID: TS22682 - Objects on DEFPOINTS layer do not plot (http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS22682)

ID: TP00113 - Creating Your Own Non-plotting Layers Instead of Using Defpoints (http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TP00113)

ID: TS29926 - DEFPOINTS objects are displayed when 3DORBIT is active or when shading objects (http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS29926)

ID: TS72496 - Create layer for objects to be viewed but not plotted (http://usa.autodesk.com/getdoc/id=TS72496)

As you can see with the above Technical Documents, Autodesk themselves give some conflicting information.... I've just found it's a lot easier in the long run to create the Layers I require (allows me far greater control) and leave Layer Defpoints to it's job (Location points within Dimensions)

Have a good one, Mike

The behaviour of the 'Defpoints' layer is intimately connected with layer '0'.
Try creating an entity on the 'Defpoints' layer, then freeze or turn off layer '0' and try to select the entity you just created.

See what I mean?

Can lead to all kinds of confusion.
