View Full Version : Free Revit Book from Autodesk
For those UK (and probably EU) based Revit users.
I remember seeing a reference for a free Revit manual or tutorial from Autodesk as long as you gave them your serial number and you were based in the US. I tried this route, inserting my UK postcode in the zip code field, and my order was apparently accepted.
However, the clever people at Autodesk in the US spotted this said they couldn't mail me my book, but have advised me that I can get my free book from http://www.autodeskstore.com/home/store.pl
I filled out this form yesterday and have just received a confirmation of my order.
Hopefully it will arrive soon.

I assume from that website that it is the user manual for revit that is free? Any idea if it has more content that the online help file?

You should have a blue card in you software package with all the details. Basically you can order only ONE of the availalble (user Guide, Metric Tutorial, etc.)

Damian,
Thanks for the heads up. I asked for 3 copies ( one for each licence), am I being greedy lol ?
Damian,
Thanks for the heads up. I asked for 3 copies ( one for each licence), am I being greedy lol ?As it's one book per subscription, I would say not.
Assume you ordered a variety, the Tutorial and the Guide book. Perhaps you will let us know which is your recommendation for those who only have one choice.

Damo.
Thanks for the tip. Just ordered my copy too. Nice to have a reference other than on the computer screen. I looked for Viz, but apparently not all Adsk product manuals are available.

For those who only have one license (and therefore 1 book), I strongly recommend the tutorial book. Of course, all this stuff is available to everyone as PDFs on the website, so you can review each and decide which one to select.

Why don't they just ship both with the disks-are they leather bound and gold embosssed?

Bill,
you also have the 3 PDF files of User Guide, Tutorials and Getting Started, located under Program Files - AutoDesk Revit Building 9 - Program.
Here is hoping that this new "added value" ticket item, is carried over to subsequent releases.

I have another question, why is it that Revit Series Customers don't have the option of getting the tutorial book, only standalone Revit users? Makes no sense to me. I really don't want the AutoCAD books, I want a Revit tutorial book. Oh well. Sorry, just griping

I'm on Revit Series and I got my Revit manual today. I'm now going to memorize it!

I wasn't referring the the manual, unless the manual is the tutorial book. I filled out the form at the wrong page first, and there were two different Revit books to choose from, a Revit 9 Users Guide, and a Revit Building 9 Tutorials-Imperial book. When I went to the correct page to request the books, I got an option of AutoCAD Build Your World, AutoCAD 2007 User Guide, and the Revit 9 Users Guide. No tutorial book listed. I was just wondering why that was. I am supposed to get my books today, so I will see what I get. Sorry to be confusing.

Got one for AutoCAD 2007 today, not that I'll use it though just thought I'd see if I'm missing something. No sign of anything Revit like.

I filled out the page online and was requested all three, even though all I wanted was the Revit book. Wouldn't you figure, the Revit book is the only one I did not get. Something to do with one book per license. I waited a month and requested just the Revit book. It arrived about 4 weeks later.

The Revit Users Guide by far. But only because I "know" Autocad and am converting to Revit. The Autocad visualization book is pretty cool, but not very in depth.

Woohoo, just got mine this morning.
I originally went here www.autodeskbookrequest.com (http://www.autodeskbookrequest.com/) first and placed an order, but then later found this link www.autodeskstore.com/cgi which seemed appropriate for Australia. I think the order came through from the second link.

It came through about 2 weeks after I tried on the second link, but like I said I'm not sure which one works.
I tell you what, that tutorials guide is bloody thick. I think the new Revit guys in our office are getting nervous. You'd be sure to knock someone out if you belted them across the head with it.

I sent a reminder to Autodesk on Tuesday (yesterday).

Sounds like you might have mine, I e-mailed a reminder and received a call saying they had already been sent a while ago. Nice lady said she would send some more though.
I'm quite interested, we could definitely use all the help we can get! Do you think we have a chance getting our free books if our office is based in Windsor Ontario, Canada about 5 minutes outside Detroit, MI??
Cheers.

I've noticed that they are listed in the bookstore but are unavailable. I know that the books can take a few months after the initial release, but maybe the serious modifications required to the Ribbon are going to hold this printing up a bit further?

The user manuals are the same as the help file. They are generated from the same text. Yes the ribbon made for a lot of changes but it has nothing to do with the lack of POD user guides.
