'Afternoon folks

Let me begin by saying that this is an awesome forum! I have been facing some issues with the translation of linked revit files into dwg files. Traditional RVT files without any links export fine, but if there is a link present, the program crashes! I've tried working with different settings, but it doesn't work. Please help! Thank you very much....

Peace,
Gautam

Have you contacted support? I'd guess that there is something in your DWG that Revit doesn't like, but they'll be able to diagnose the problem better with the files.

Try exporting the files with checking the box of "Export each view or sheet as single file" that gives you the links as blocks inside the cad drawing and its faster,,that help me with a big file...

Hope this helps you.

Need more information. Is it views with any linked file or the same linked file? Do you have the problem if you unload the links, then export?

All the files we've had issues with were bad dwg files and not within Revit itself.

Anything you can make Revit entitites, do. The time up front in converting things from CAD to Revit will be made up later in dealing with these issues on the back side of the project. We have a current project with 40-50 dwgs, and I've spend more time fooling with these than it would have taken to just Revitize them all (which we're now doing anyhow).

Just freeze layers you don't need. WBLOCK the layers you need and try linking the file in Revit. All you need is basic linework, right?

Gentlemen,

Thank you very much for your responses. I will contact support with my query. The problem mainly persists with files which have multiple links from other RVT files. For instance, I have a site with four buildings (each building is a separate file, but placed in relation to its location on the site) linked into the same. When I drop these various files in, I drop them with the shared coordinates. Most of the times, the view is either an elevation or a 3D axonometric which I want to translate. I will try what Paco has suggested as well. If I remove (not unload) the links and export, it works fine. Also, I'm not converting the files from DWG to RVT, so I havent encountered these issues in that translation. Thank you once again! Have a blessed day.
