Assigning a sub-Category to a Railing

I have a curb/gutter profile that needs to follow a sloping floor. Easiest solution is to create it as a railing and host it to the floor.
Can this 'railing' be assigned a different sub-category for display control purposes or am I stuck with using worksets to control it?

This is a great question.

Just yesterday, I noticed out of the blue, for no particular reason, that you can't create an in-place family under the railing category, so when I read this, I went to check to see if you can place railings on subcategories and indeed there is no parameter for that, although under object styles you can add subcategories to railings. Anybody want to take a gander at why you can't do this?

Well Gramps, theres this newfangled gadget called "Filters" that I have been using lately. You might find it handy if the only other alternative is Worksets.
