Hello everyone,

I have a question about the use of autosave in ACAD2004. I have the autosave set to save every 5 mins. and directing the autosave files to be stored on my c:\temp folder.
Cad crashed and I can't seem to find any ac$, or sv$ files in my temp directory. the ones that are there are couple days old. Can someone tell me why that is?

I have also try to change one of the AC$ file to a dwg extension and try to open it in CAD but it doesn't recognize it and opens a blank dwg instead. How do you recover a dwg from an AC$ or SV$ file?

any comments or tips will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Vito

sv$ are the autosave files. Simply rename the extension to dwg. The ac$ are temporary files for AutoCAD, not drawing files.

Both of these files are cleaned up on successful closes.

Hi

Check out the following Technical Documents on the Autodesk web site under the Knowledge Base section -

ID: TS68939 - BAK files created as backups of SV$ automatic save files are not deleted after exit (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?siteID=123112&id=2865093&linkID=2475323)

ID: TS20536 - Automatic save (SV$) files (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?siteID=123112&id=2897386&linkID=2475323)

ID: TS23660 - Unable to locate automatic save file auto.sv$ (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?siteID=123112&id=2863756&linkID=2475323)

Have a good one, Mike

Both of these files are cleaned up on successful closes.

...and to expand on that - the definition of a "successful close" is open for interpretation.

There is a way to retain ALL autosave files if you wish. See the bottom of: http://cadpanacea.com/node/15

When it crashes DO NOT CLICK YES TO SAVE CHANGES, and most of your problems will go away.
