Take a look at this and see if you can figure out how we made it.

Knowing some of the stuff you've done in the past, Scott, I'm going to say it's a railing, and the links are ballusters??

However you did it, it looks really nice. We've got that type of fence (posts with chain between, all over the place, & can't wait to try it.

nope, try again.

How about something like this. A sweep, copied and rotated a few times.

Radial array? With a locus in the vertical plane above the chains?

Was it you that produced the festoon lights a year or so back? I imagine it was done using the same trick.

Steve Stafford and I worked on this friday and used a sweep for the link(and it had to be a mechanical family in order for a polar array to work, why who knows) Then we brought that link family into a blank project in which we arrayed it in elevation(something I previously thought was not possible- since I've been trying for years to create a true arched brick header without copy rotate(so now this is possible too.) any way in this new project you can polar array and then adjust the radius and number of links to allow any needed config. then this project is purged and linked into my project, this allows for easy copy/rotate, mirror etc. I found that I couldnt polar array in elevation in my current project due to a bug with true north or something, it arrays but doesn't follow the proper path. anyway, I'll attach the files for you to have a look.

I had a look at it, but is it parametric in the project? The family array's don't seem to be associated to each other and there is no option to change the number of links or span. Isn't that the point of the array? Am i missing something?

I've been trying for years to create a true arched brick header without copy rotate(so now this is possible too.)
Have you done this yet? Could you post it, please? I am still stumbling on this item.

In the finished example I posted the array was removed, but when you create it is completely parametric. Just create a circle, move the link to the quadrant point, then do the radial array(to last if you have a specific arc length) you will see a blue radius dimension that is editable any time you pick an item in the array and the qty which you can edit. Sorry for the misleading file. Here is one you can play with

It is a pity we can't do this in a family. Would be nice to be able to setup formulas to have it calculate how many links to use for a given span... 8)

Heres one for brick, basically just create a brick family(generic model) load it into a project(make sure in the family the box for always vertical is not checked) then place it on the horiz. part of your arch and array from the center of the arch. note in mine I did it quick and did it using the array 2nd, I should have used last but you'll get the idea. so just create on brick and use it on all your windows.
