View Full Version : Revit 9.0 export to DWG 2000 Bug??

Has anyone come across the following bug which only occurs in Revit 9.0.

We are unable to copy to clipboard (Ctrl C) and paste (Ctrl V) any exported linework out of Revit 9.0 between drawings or within the original drawing. Additionally, if we drawn any new linework in the original exported drawing, that also can not be copy and paste between drawings.

Here are the steps that where used to discover (hope this makes sense):

1. Export elevation, section or plan view from Revit 9.0 to DWG 2000 format.
2. Using ADT3.3, open the exported drawing. Everything looks fine.
3. Open a new 2000 drawing and attempt to copy and paste between the 2 drawings or within the same drawing. Nothing happens.
4. If you right click and drag between drawings or even within the same drawing you are prompted with a dialog box to move or copy, link, create hyperlink but again, if you choose to copy or move, nothing happens.
5. What is really interesting is, if you draw a new shape in the originally exported file, then try to copy and paste the new shape into the newly created drawing, this new shape acts like objects in the originally exported Revit drawing and will not paste.
6. Even still, if you draw a new shape in the a new drawing, then copy into the originally exported Revit file (this works fine) then try to copy back to the new file, this same object will not copy.
7. As an option, we tried exporting to 2004 dwg format, everything works fine with the 2004 copy and paste between files. However, if you try to save down to AutoCAD 2000 format, the same issues arise with the copy and paste. So this was not a solution.

So the question is, is this a bug? is this by design? is there a system or file setting with AutoCAD that can be change? Does this occur in AutoCAD 2000-2002 as well or is this specific to ADT3.3. Does anyone know?

By the way we did find a Solution: If you save to 2000 dxf format, everything works fine but it would be nice if you didn't need to do. Just to mention, the copy and paste issues do not happen in Revit 8.1

Our office is currently using ADT 3.3 as the standard while we migrate to Revit so the answer is not a simple Upgrade. We do a few have newer versions of AutoCAD but currently all projects are completed in 2000 format and this is not about to change anytime soon.

My understanding, although I could be completely wrong here, is that because acad 2000 is now unsupported - like a legacy piece of software - the developers do not spend much time testing things like exporting from Revit all the way down to 2000 anymore, even though the option is still available.
Anybody else want to comment on this? The inability to cut & paste does seem odd...

Autodesk has issued a hot fix for this problem. Unfortunately, it still involves a bit of a workaround for us, as I have to first export to 2004, and then to 2000.
