I'd make it "in place" and use a sweep with a 3d path. See image:

How do you make the sweep continue up the gable?

I think that you'll need to do an inplace (wall hosted if you like) family to model that condition. You're talking about the "gable" fascia in the distance down the side of the building, not the foreground right?

I think you could do the 3D sweep like Z suggests for the "cap". Use a straight wall sweep for the horizontal portion, all the way across.

Infill the "gap" between the two elements with an in-place wall hosted family that would just be an extruded solid, the depth of which would match your horizontal sweeps fascia less cornice crown.

Does that make sense?
