Hello all.

I have been searching the forum for some time and have been unable to find any info on what I need.

I am looking for any info on sharing a Revit file between remote architecture offices. I have heard that sharing a Revit file between networked remote offices makes the Revit central file way too slow and makes it too difficult for the team to work on the file together. I have also heard about remote desktop but this solution will not work in my case due to the lack of computer availability.

We are considering splitting the Revit file into two separate Revit files, each containing separate buildings for each respective office. We would then try to link the small building back into the larger building file to produce one master file the would need to contain all sheets and details from both files. Is this possible? Would this cause any schedule issues?

I did do a quick experiment using this method but was unable to link sheets and views from the Revit file.

Any help on this topic would be great.

Thanks.

I had a similar problem. I have a partner who works remotely and we both had to work on the same building. We created a copy and my partner worked on one while I worked on the other. At the end of the day, we cut a pasted my partners work back into the master file. It worked for what we needed it to do.

Hi Sultarc. Thanks for the reply.

That sounds like alot of work. This project may be too big for the process you mention. However one advantage we have is that the project is two discreet buildings. This must help in some way. Im still concerned about sheets, notes, dimmensions...etc.

You can schedule linked files in the master file. Lots of linking control in Revit 9. Which version are you using. Also ability to save detail views to a folder/directory and load them into other project files. Only limited testing by me so far but if you haven't got 9 going yet (as it appears a lot have not) it is worth a look.

Try this link:

What it boils down to, is - your've going to need to invest in some hardware between offices.
Google:
Steelhead from Riverbed
or
Availl (two "L"s) software

Thanks guys.

This last link is just what I was looking for. Im hoping that by moving the smaller building onto its own workset, and limiting usage to this one workset while keeping the others off working over WAN wont be a big speed issue. Anybody think this will do the trick?

Thanks again.
