Sorry if this is a repost but I haven't found anything on the subject for Revet Structure. Is there a way to edit a dimension text in plans and details views to change to something like "varies". I have this problem with a top of steel elevation tag that slopes also. Please help I am losing my mind.

I haven't found any "overrides" but I have created a new dimension style with as small a text size as I can. I then created a new text type (color red so I know it when I see it) called Dimension Overrides.

This is a work around to your issue but it's the best I've found. Hope it helps you....

Hi,
No, unfortunately there is no way to do that which is very frustrating, as you indicate. You have to make your own linework manually.
But you could make one and then group it. Then the next time you use the insert the group, ungroup and re-adjust it.
It would be great if we could make a little parametric family so we could change the length of the dimension group by pulling the ends.

Roll with the punches man, and keep on truckin'...

Thanks guys, as always a speedy response. Creating a new dim style worked fine, I was just hoping that I was missing something. I hate to have to trick the programing to make something work. The company that I work for primarily runs ADT so we have people with to much freedom to edit everything. Thanks again.

I didn't seem to notice any way to reduce the dimension text width. Anyone have a work around for that?

As far as I know the work around for "over riding" dim text is to place a piece of reqular text over the top of the dim text to mask it.

Wow! I never noticed that, nice catch. You can modify a few things in the text properties that you can't in the dimension properties (italic, bold, width factor, etc.). I'd send this one in as well, it seems like it'd be pretty easy to implement and it would be more consistent, we always use a .9 width factor as our standard.

And I think you're right about the overriding approach; I just like to have the size of the text mimimal so even if I want to leave it blank (no TEXT masking the actual dimension text) temporarily I can. And I prefer transparent text when possible.

Never thought to mask the text....good idea.

TomThat's why they call them "work" arounds. As they say, there's usually more than one way to skin a cat (no offense to cat lovers).
