View Full Version : Color Fills
I posted about this a while back and got no response, but I'll try again. Is it possible somehow to copy a color fill from one area scheme to another? I have area schemes for different options, and would like to have colors for spaces consistent throughout. In other words I'd like to have the classrooms the same color in all the schemes.
I can't find a way to do this short of just copying down all the colors and manually entering the information. I'm not too thrilled about that idea since it would have to be repeated for every scheme. Area styles work between schemes, but can't get this to work. Any ideas?
Thanks,
DH

If you click on the color, then highlight one of the little boxes, then click add, you can save the color in the color pick dialog, then its easy to sellect for your other options.
That's not what's causing me the grief. What I'm talking about is the colors that are assigned to particular spaces. Basically, I want to copy a color fill table from one area scheme to another. I have the same spaces styles in both schemes, and want the colors to be consistent without having to manually set up each one..
Ideally, I'd like to be able to assign a color to the area style. Then this could all be set up in advance, and would be consistent between schemes, and projects. Would also make for easy editing in the area style schedule.
Does this make sense?
Thanks,

Createa a type, set the color and simply reuse that type. copy / paste from project to project. Make sure the destination project doesnt contain that specific type
Apparently, you can only copy/paste into an area plan in the same area scheme or at least one of the same name. It seems inconsistent to me. You can copy boundaries from scheme to scheme, and area styles work between schemes. But you can't copy an area or color fill between schemes, at least I haven't been able to.

can you make the color fill view an overlay that just shows the color fills? If the filled area is the same for both schemes, you can just place the view on top of the plan on each sheet , this will also bring the legend with it. I am not sure if you can put it on multiple sheets, and if not, just duplicate it.

Have you tried creating a project template with this stuff already done up like you are asking? I'll have to try this method myself.

That's what I've done with area styles, and what I'd like to do with the color fill, but would still have to go through the process each time a new area scheme is created. I really don't want to try and create every possible scheme in advance, I'd like this to be able to be more dynamic. The real problem is that I've got dozens of area styles (space types) defined, so it takes a bit of time to enter the colors for them all.
This is really something I think that would be better done with room objects. Unfortunately, I have to go by gross square footage, and so am forced to use areas instead. Making areas phase and option aware would solve the problem, but I'd really like to see more flexibility and consistency in these tools. It's so close in so many ways, if they could just fix that last 1%.....
