View Full Version : I need a wall louver!

I've been trying to find a simple parametric wall louver. At RevitCity I found a couple, but they both seem to have the same problem (see attached). The louvers themselves don't fit the frame the way they should. Is this due to a change in Revit 9 when using one created in an earlier version? If I need to modify it, can someone point me to a good tutorial or info on modifying the family so that it works? Or maybe someone can post one that works? Thanks!

Try this one

Thanks, but it produces the same result as the attachment (looks like the same family when inserting also). Is there something I'm missing when inserting it? Or some other setting that might be causing this?

You're absolutely right, sorry for not testing it. I'll build one for you. How do you want it to flex ?
This one should be OJ, not really a big deal but this one works fine.

It works, thanks! Now maybe I can do some "reverse engineering" and figure out how to build something like this, starting with adding a frame... If you (or anyone else) have any pointers to sources of documentation (better than the tutorials & help files) that explains how to create something like this -- number of arrayed elements, setting sill/head heights, adjustable width & height, etc -- I'd appreciate it.

I'll see if i can find some time to create a tutorial on this one

I was able to add a frame, increase the opening cut to fit the frame... I'm starting to figure out some of these things. But I just noticed something else; each louver steps back in the vertical plane by a fraction of an inch from the one below. I recall seeing something in this forum about this happening, but can't seem to find it now. How do I fix this?

It's probably not locked in the vertical plan. Can you post your family, i'll fix it ?

I was just wondering if it were possible to do what you want using Railings?
Just an idea tho...
anybody wanna comment on this?
Thanks

I've already taken the liberty of creating a tutorial on this process. Refer my Nested families and arrays tutorial. Located here and at revit city. Refer my blog for links. Once you understand the basic rules they are quite easy to create.

1. Constrain the two defining elements of the array. (first and last or first and second)
2. Preferable use nested families for the elements to be arrayed and constrain them by their origins.

Here it is fixed with a frame outside now.

I'm posting the one I'm using. I tried locking the louver array group in plan, but got something really strange; the louvers then were offset by several inches apiece! So I'm still struggling to figure it all out. But I'm studying the tutorial (link) you posted, thanks!

Tried it again; it occured to me I might not be locking the dimension to the right plane. This time I locked the dimension to the face of the wall -- instead of the center -- and it's coming out the way it should now; no offset louvers.

Here's an optimized version. I made the Height and Width instance parameters. Then I added a "Maximum Louver Spacing" parameter and the array adjusts the louvers according to the height entered.

For those interested i'm currently in the process of updating that tutorial as there was a change made in Version 7.0 that effects the creation of parametric arrays, also that tutorial was only a quicky so i'm going to make the next one a bit more comprehensive with a simple and more advanced version...

Any suggestions welcome.
