I am trying to set up a demolition plan. When I set my view phase settings to:

Phase: Existing
Phase filter to: Show Previous Plus Demo

I cannot draw anything in this view it tells me, "None of the created elements are visible in Floor Plan: Existing Phase View. You may want to check the active view, its Parameters, and Visibility settings, as well as any Plan Regions and their settings."

I have gone through the phasing set up to no avail.

I don't remember it working this way before. Any ideas?

When you say you can put anything, do you mean when you demo you don't see your demo or if you place a new wall you don't see it?

I suggest setting up phases in real world work terms

ie I typ. have

1. existing phase with associated views that I build the existing building in those views phase filter none
2. demo phase with associated views - I demo my walls in this phase phase filter show previous and demo
3. new construction, where I add work. phase filter previous and new.

I've never had any problems with this setup.

Since you are currently in the Existing phase, this is where Revit is trying to draw. You have your phase filter set to show Previous and Demo. This means that it is trying to show everything before the Existing phase, and also anything that was demo'd. You wont see anything on Existing, becuase the phase filter isn't showing anythign Existing. You probably are looking to have an Existing, and New phase. Under the New Phase, you can set the Phase filter to show Previous and Demo. This will show existing items halftone, and items demo'd in dashed lines Then you can set the phase filter to show Exisitng and New, to see.....well....the New and Existing!

We use a similar setup to Scotts but skip the demo phase. Using the project browser filters we can segregate the views by phase and have no problem organizing. My demo plans are on the New Construction Phase filters are show previous and demo. Also allows temp items line construction partitions and doors. We tried using a specific demo phase but it seems the more phases you use the more confusing the project becomes, so we used the KISS method and dumped the demop phase.

I agree with Chris. I usually draw all the existing conditions in the existing phase. Then I move to the New phase, demo the stuff to be demo'd and draw the new stuff to be new. If there are multiple demo/new phases I just continue the cycle with Existing, Phase 1 remodel, phase 2 remodel, phase 3 remodel. All demo and new construction with Phase 1 is shown in Phase 1, etc.

The key then is using the "Show Previous + Demo" to show what is being demo'd, and "show previous + new" to show what is being created. For any rendered views set the phase filter to "Show complete" to ensure that materials are applied and not overridden.

THis has worked successfully for me for as long as Revit has has phases and the Demo tool... and I think that goes back to version 1.5 or 2... a LONG time ago!! Many projects have gone by...

Like Scott Brown, I use an intermediate Demo phases - because quite often I find I am inserting new doors and windows or/and voids into space occupied by previous elements. Also I find the graphic o'rides are visually interfering - they show in the phase in which they are/were created. Also I have found that creating the new work in the demo phase can produce odd elevation and section visuals in the model - maybe because I do most of my work in Show All.

Whatever way works for you Mark! Equally; using or skipping the demo phase - they all work - you simply haveto get your view filters working correctly..

outpostarc The PHASE should = New construction
PHASE FILTER = You had it correct! Previous + Demo
Demolition work is in effect issue for construction!
Then under Phase settings either create a new Phase filter (overide Exist, Demo & New) or edit the Previous + Demo Phase Filter To New = By catagory /or overide depending on how you want to view the object.
