View Full Version : AutoCAD 2007 causing too many Fatal Errors, therefore switching back to 2006

I have had enough of the "fatal errors" while trying to plot, print, and publish my work.
I uninstalled ACAD 2007 and reinstalled ACAD 2006 today after 2 hrs. of "fatal errors" and other related odd behavior.
Don't get me wrong, I liked ACAD 2007 just fine, but I do not use the limited 3D and only make 2D drawings and ACAD 2006 crashes less than ACAD 2007 when trying to plot, etc.
So, I am going back to ACAD 2006............. maybe someday AutoDesk will work out that bug, I hope!
I suspect a problem with your installation. I'm finding 2007 far more stable than 2006, which was a pretty pathetic version in my experience.

I am achieving fatal errors from time to time.
I have noticed that I need all of my 2007 settings to be "EXACTLY"
what my 2006 settings were for some drawings to not CRASH!
There should be some sort of "NIL" function in 2007 that can be used
when it does not find something it has to look up. Apparently 2007
likes to get confused and boot the user.

First comments I have heard like that.
2006 had been very stable for us.
Way too many negative 2007 reports to even dream of upgrading. It's sitting on the shelf and at this point will most likely be skipped altogether.

I've not had many problems with either (although I am running ADT 2006 & 2007), from what I understand if you don't use the 3D side of vanilla cad then there is not a great deal of extra bits worth upgrading IMHO.
Check out this review for more info if your thinking whether to upgrade or not http://www.dotsoft.com/acad2007.htm

We've got 2007 sat on the shelf at present as well, but there has been increasing pressure to install it onto machine, but reading this I'm a little reluctant to do so at present.
is there any real advantage of doing so if the thing seems to be so unstable?

For me 2006 was one of the most solid releases when it came to stability. I have noticed 2007 crashing from time to time, mostly on my machine due to really pushing the limits of my 1GB of RAM with certain processes. So, I'm blaiming my computer for some of it.
2007 isn't a bad product, its really quite good, great if you do 3D work. Yet if you are happy w/2005 or 2006 and do just 2D work I can see why you might wait a release or two before upgrading. 2008 will be more stable and likely have a nice variety of feature improvements/additions and 2009 should be a rock of stability. I'm not saying to not upgrade to 2007, it is a good product especially if you have an older version of AutoCAD, but I understand if you are leaving it on your shelf if you are happy with your current release until the next release.

2007 seems more stable since service pack 2. I've not had a crash since installing it when it was released.
