Hi:
I wanted to know about the animation in 3d max 8. how does one animate lathe or extrusion in 3d max .
Like I wanted to show the line any line object getting skin as the animation starts moving from frame 1 to 100.
I hope I am clear. Actually I want to show the wireframe of building getting skin as the camera starts rolling.

its been a good while since ive done anything like that, but if memory serves, you would have to model everything fully, change the visibility (off the top of my head do this using a transparent material), then as you start your animation advance frame by frame and and correct the materials as needed. and it will take more than 100 frames. i would guess in the neighborhood of 5000 frames to avoid being really choppy.
im sure there are more elegant ways of doing this, but i havent touched max in at least a year, and havent animated in two or three.
good luck.

I've not worked with 3ds Max but animation of lathe, drill, milling, etc. can be done with EdgeCAM.
I received a student version that allows you to see the machining done to create the part you have drawn. The student version doesn't allow you to plot the drawing or e-mail it. I would be interested to hear if you achieve the results your striving for. Good luck!

I think I've done something like this before... I think I used the track view to gradually show/hide the materials as the animation progressed. that would make it smooth. you would have another one the gradually show/hid the wireframe as it progressed by starting low and ending high or vice-versa. Now how you would do it across a scene while the camera is panning, I don't know without some serious fiddling...
i may be totally off, but i think it's a step in the right direction...
hope this helps!

Its really very simple. Start with ANY object.

Hit Aurokey
Go to the frame you want then change the properties of what it was.

Press autokey again then press play
Sit back and watch the movie.
