View Full Version : My button icons got waxed...again

I have ALWAYS had issues with this throughout my time using AutoCAD. And I have NO CLUE what is happening. It seems when I create custom toolbars, close AutoCAD, then open it back up my button icons have the notorious SMILEY icon (now replaced by a much more appropriate "?").

I'm still customizing my installation of 2k5 along with LDD 2k5, and I created a toolbar with mainly LDD commands on it. I did this by dragging and dropping them from their respective toolbars. When I exited, all the icons got nuked and now I can't recreate the toolbar b/c the buttons aren't on the original toolbar, nor can I get them from the "all commands" listing.

ARRRRGG. 2k5 is NOT winning my heart over.

Check this website (http://www.afralisp.net/vbaa/vbadll.htm)out. It is AfraLisp - and it tells you how to create those custom tool bars and NEVER get smileys again (using dll's).

I took the time to do this, which took awhile, but it works GREAT. This document is now stuck in my folder of really cool things, and passed on to anyone here who asks!!

Hmmm that sounds like a great solution once I get my current problem fixed. But for now I can't get the icons back. I don't have the original toolbars so I can't recreate the buttons, and I don't know what the icons look like, nor can I pull them from the "all commands" area. Is there a specific plays I should go to find LDD buttons?

Sounds like you need an original .mnu file...can't help you there (Mechanical 2004DX here), but maybe someone can -- maybe check in the LDD forum if you can't find the help here.

I think I'm just going to have to snag it from someone else here at work.

Anyone know where button images are stored now? I just searched my entire C drive for BMP's and ICO's and only found the express tools buttons.

Look for acadbtn.dll and acadres.dll. In AutoCAD they are now compiled. I don't know if the files have the same name in LDD.

Of note. My icons were compiled in 2000i and they are have also been dissapearing in 2004.

If you customized the main menu, it's files would be under the AllUsers profile. If you want to get back the default menu, it is stored in a .cab file under C:\Program Files\Your vertical app\UserDataCache. Double click on the menus.cab and rt+clk on the mnc file and choose Extract.

If you have compiled your bitmaps into a dll file, make sure that the name of the file matches the name of your menu. This tip just saved me hours of time, so I thought I would pass it along.

Hi

Check out the following thread within the ACAD 2005 General Forum (http://forums.augi.com/forumdisplay.php?f=58) -

Have a good one, Mike

Try this...

Close ACAD. Back up your .mns & .mnc files in which your toolbars are located. Delete your .mns file & reopen ACAD. This should force it to reload the images associated with the toolbars.

This is good advice. I just compiled bitmaps from a misbehaving custom toolbar menu and they are all working fine. You do not have to change the names of your icons in the menu, but get rid of the .bmp extension. I used 1 bmp for both sizes (std and large icon).

Sure wish I understood what you meant by "re-imported" and "built his profile" to get his icons back !!
Maybe you can get him to explain in detail how he did it ! I would REALLY appreciate that info.
Thanks in advance............Capt. D.

Saw this post and thought "Great, that's just what I'm looking for!!" but when I went to the site I could not find the information on creating dll's.
Would you still happen to have that document?

Thanks,
don

Afralisp has moved around a couple of times. Afralisp is now located at Afralisp.net (http://www.afralisp.net/)? The revised url should be here (http://www.afralisp.net/vbaa/vbadll.htm).
