I have made a log wall using sweeps and I do not like it at all in plan. To many lines showing up and hard to dimension. I really would like to have a solution for a round log as well as a large rectangular hewn log as well. I have attached a view of what I have done. Another problem with this way, is it does not connect to the roof correctly on gable ends, since you have to enter heights of the sweeps. Anyway, I was hoping someone would have a better solution. Any help would be appreciated.

Attached are two different ways I have done log walls. In both situations the log coursing is at the same height at the corners which is the way my clients want it. The other typical way is to have the coursing offset at the corners, so if you want it that way you would have to adjust it.

The one with the round logs is actually log siding and I have added log extrusions for the "butt and pass" log corners.

The one with the square logs is nothing more than a thick wall with a chinking model hatch.

Both these walls will attach to a roof...using the attach command.

I hope that helps get you started.

There is another post which shows offset logs using sweeps..the individual sweeps are pulled out at the corners. If you have any trouble finding this post let me know.

I feel your pain making the wall out of sweeps, I am very happy with my wall with the chinking model hatch. That house is getting very complex and the model is already slow..I would hate to think how slow it would be with wall sweeps for logs.

I have done one log home (a remodel) I used sweeps as well. I have had some similar problems (mostly at openings). Luckily I dont have the walls extending into the gable ends. The existing building had t111 siding. Anyway, for the most part the sweeps worked well. I will try to export the wall as a family and post it later tonight.

Did not take as long as I thought it would. Hope this works for you.

Thanks Sean. These look good in plan as well. This is one type I was looking for. The other is the large rectangular hewn logs which is what I am using on a current project. I supose I should just keep the the profile flat so I do not see all those unwanted lines.

Sean,

Thanks for the wall. I bascially have done this, but the real problem is trying to dimension the wall. How do you do that. Do you in up putting real thin lines on the plan to get the dimension you want? The other is about gable ends. I can get the wall to attach to the roof, but the sweeps dont follow the roof slope? Thanks for the help

Well, the dimensioning i used for this wall as at the face of the host wall which worked out well since that is were the joint in the logs are. Making them follow the roof was one i could not figure out, so i cheated. I made my gable ends a shingle siding. Not the answer your really looking for i know.
