Info below applies when working on walls in a section or elevation view...
You cannot use the align tool to align the surface pattern of a wall when looking at the wall from either of it's "ends". You have to be in an elevation/section looking at the wall's sides.
Note: If you make the change when looking at the side of the wall, it will change "one" side and both ends (as long as you pick the side of the wall that is wrapping).
In my example, the wall has (2) layers of brick (one on each finish face) and I'm wrapping the exterior layers. If I do the alignment of the surface pattern while looking at the exterior "Side" of the wall, only the area highlighted in yellow gets that change.
