View Full Version : Landscaping plans - Hedges

Hedges are typically squiggly lines. We've thought of using repeating detail components and line based detail components. There is a tool in ADT called NapkinSketch, but we only have the AutoCAD that came with revit series. Any ideas how we can create hedges quickly in Revit? We have a rather large landscape plan.

Make a plant family with the symbol you want in it and start to copy/array it around.

This is a rather large site plan and we would like to represent large swaths of the grounds (which are covered with the same plant material) with one uniquely shaped "hedge". We could draw the boundaries of these areas with chained and squiggling linework but that would take a lot of time considering the size of this site. Using a plant family would mean having to place LOTS of plants or creating one big plant to represent an entire region of the landscape that is covered with the same plant material (which is what we are after) but then we would still have to draw each segment of the squiggly line in a long chain and we would be back to square one.

We might just use the revision cloud tool in AutoCAD and import the drawing into Revit. I don't see an easier way to draw fast landscape plans.

I guess if you don't need them to schedule then just linework would do the trick. Can you break from tradition and use a filled region with a plant like hatch pattern, then draw it with invisible lines so it doesn't have hard edges?

Repeating detail. Make a detail component that you like as the single plant and set as repeating detail.

Imagine the attached at a much larger scale. We tried a 4' long repeating detail. We get gaps if we don't use repeating detail lines in increments of 4'.

AutoCADs revision cloud is fast and probably close enough for now.

Could just use Revit's revision cloud.

I agree with Tobie, I have used the revision tool lots of times for hedging. Of course as long as you aren't also using the tool for what it's intended

You could try the railing tool

Maybe a line based generic model (similar to a revision cloud)?
