View Full Version : Batt Insulation as a Hidden (Dashed) Linetype

I have some "partition details" on a standard partition type sheet in ADT that I'm attempting to recreate in Revit (mabe I should just Import and call it a day, but I'm being stubborn and have Linked it and am drawing over the details).

Anywho, we show the batt insulation with a hidden linetype because it's optional. I've managed to get the width and bulge to match (3 1/4" and 2.0135 bulge), but see no way to be able to change the line style (not in the properties box).

If it can be done, how do you do it?

I tried adding a new line style of dots spaced from the minimum 5/256" to 3/32" that I was applying as an override for the solid line type but did not see the insulation line change. I don't know how else that could be accomplished without a workaround.

Look at Settings->Line Styles->Insulation Batting Lines This controls the insulation object style. The problem is going to be that the line segments Revit uses in the insulation are very short and at most scales will bead into each other making it look like it is a solid line. (Set the insulation to 2' wide and you'll see the line style can be changed to Hidden.)

Another option would be to make you own repeating detail. You would have to make several different types for different widths, but it should give you more control over the linestyle appearance.

Another option would be to use a grey line to fade the insulation rather than show it dashed.

Out of curiosity, when did insulation become "optional"?

He might be doing it on a garage detail or something... something not normally insulated, but I personally would love an insulated and heated/cooled garage. :)

Aaron,
The problem with changing the Object Style item will be that ALL insulation in the project will look like this, yes? I don't want that. Just on the Drafting view of the Partition types. Sounds like it can't be done without a repeating detail. I try playing with that.

Thanks.

Correct if it is set at the object style level. However, it can be overridden per view.

oooohh!
Didn't know that.
Here, try the attached as a repeating detail, rotated 90 degrees counter clockwise and fill space. How'd I do?
