I'm working on a fairly complex mold. Blanking dies are my norm territory.
What works good for creating a mold cavity in a die plate block?

If possible i would like to have the cavity derived form the model of the finished part.
Is that possibly?

Anyhow, Any ideas would be greatly appriciated.
Thanks,
Rich

Derive your original part into a new part (as a solid body), scaling to add shrinkage (ie 1.006 scale factor for 0.6% shrinkage) and save (ie. Part+shrink.ipt)
Open new file, derive "part+shrink.ipt" (as work surfaces), and create single block encompassing both fixed and moving halves. Split-Part the block using derived work surfaces. Now it can get tricky. Create surfaces for shutoff faces, then stitch these. Split-Part the block using stitched surface, and save the file (ie. cavity.ipt). Then Save-As another file (ie core.ipt). Open "core.ipt" and edit last Split-Part, changing the remove direction, then save. Now you have 2 halves of mold tool to stuff into an assembly.
