Not read only in Windows Explorer just in CUI. All CUI files including Main, custom etc... Worked fine for the past year.
What version of AutoCAD are you using? If a 2006 version of the CUI was edited with the 2007 CUI Editor, the CUI will be read only for 2006.

I do like 2007's CUI much better although I wish Workspaces included more like Shortcut Menus so I wouldn't have to change the Main Customization file.

Thanks Opie, I was able to fix it by editiing the CUI in TextPad and changing Version numbers. Now I can modify it again.

This is a good tip. I know I am going to run across this someday and get
very mad at AutoDesk. The software should be changed so that this
error doesn't happen.

You would still be able to edit it in the 2007 CUI Editor. It would only become read only in the 2006 CUI Editor. I believe it is to reduce some version issues. They don't want you to mess with any of the new items that were added in 2007 and then corrupt your 2006.

Someone else here generated the 2007 office profile before I took over her work (migrating to 2007 right now) and I needed to make some changes to the CUI where it appeared to be locked in 2007 and not in windows (2007 made CUI, not imported 2006)
Here's how:
- Under options when your CUI is referenced through "files/customization files/main customization file/" then it's unlocked and you can edit it.
- When put under "files/customization files/enterprise customization file/" the CUI will be read only, which is our preference for a user profile.
If all else fails, try this one out.
