View Full Version : Options for saving a Rendering

Typically, I render to the viewport, & save the image to a .bmp file. I've tried saving to .jpg, .wmf, .tga, and .tif file types, but they don't offer the same quality of image that a .bmp file does, but a 1280 resolution monitor rendering creates a 3.6 MB file size!
Any options on reducing the file size, but having the same quality?
If I render to a file, even with a higher resolution, the resulting .bmp file appears grainy.
What about rendering to file types PCX, Post Script, TGA, and TIFF ?
If I render to Render Window, the image is much to pixellated.
What's a mother to do?

Well, I don't know how practical this is exactly, or how it would work for you, but, I always rendered to viewport, then did a printscreen and pasted into ms photoeditor and saved as a jpg. (i'm sure there are smarter people on her who'll be able to tell you better ways, but, so far, that has worked ok for my uses)

Good luck on getting the results you need!

Hi

See if any of the information presented in the following Autodesk Knowledge Technical Documents, help...

ID: TS72324 - Poor quality of rendered output file (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?siteID=123112&id=2890800&linkID=2475323)

ID: TS65026 - Rendered output with AutoCAD (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?siteID=123112&id=2888931&linkID=2475323)

ID: TS22326 - Plotted rendered images on larger sized paper are pixelated and coarse (http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/item?siteID=123112&id=2898268&linkID=2475323)

Have a good one, Mike

I usually render to TGA with 32-bit colour. If necessary, I use Photoshop or Irfanview to convert to JPG.
Bear in mind that the file resolution does not have to match the screen resolution.

BTW, I have never before heard anyone praise BMP over any of the other formats.

what are you using the output for? its its just for onscreen display, then you dont need much more than 100dpi. if you are printing it to any thing bigger than 4x6 you will want 300dpi or more. its been eons since i have rendered out of CAD, so i cant do much for you in that aspect, although, if you posted a file i could take a look. i know in school we used to render out of CAD and the image quality was just fine (using acad 2002)
