We're new to revit, but truly love its features and speed.

We're trying to add color for a presentation view of our floor plan, to show new floor finishes, furniture layout, equipment, cabinetry, etc.

However, while the floor finishes are showing up in color, the furniture, cabinetry, toilet fixtures are only showing as black line images. We're using "shading with edges" command.

Pfindland,

Glad to hear you're enjoying Revit! Check the Properties of each item first to see if there is already a material category that can be modified. More than likely, if it's not already assigned, you'll need to add subcategories to your Families, and assign material definitions there. Otherwise, you're getting a 'default' material that was assigned to the elements during the creation of your items. This is typical with 'stock' items such as furniture or plumbing fixtures. Happy rendering!

Also check to see that your furniture is displaying its 3d components. Some stock families turn off the 3D elements in plan and just use 2d line work to represent it. It saves computer resources and speeds things up. Not so good for other things. As a tip, if you see a floor finish through a family - it has its 3D elements turned off. Good luck.
