View Full Version : Linked autocad dwg not exporting

I've linked an autocad file into revit which has furniture layouts, paving layouts etc. As we already had it in acad it was much quicker to link in to revit rather than trace in revit.
When I export the drawing sheet to Autocad for distribution to consultants it doesn't export the linked file leading to missing information. I could obviously just cut'n'paste between autocad files, but when issuing drawings you tend to be busy and overlook these things.
Is there a setting I'm missing, or is it simply one of those things ?
Thanks

Try exporting the view that's on the sheet, and not the sheet & see if that clears the problem.

Revit doesn't export linked files, it xrefs them in the acad file or imports them I believe. So if its linked in revit it will be xref'd in acad. However the layer settings aren't maintained which is a problem.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I've tried exporting the view only, but still no joy.
Attached image 1 shows the linked autocad dwg in Revit highlighted in red. 2nd image shows exported file in Acad with the linked file missing.
This must be how Revit 'handles' it unless I'm missing a trick.
BTW I dont want to insert cad file into revit (instead of linking) as file size can blossom, and finding them in a large revit file can be frustrating.

We had this problem with an extremely large (area wise) site survey.
We just couldnt figure out where it was in the Autocad file as it didnt show up as an xref, but opening this up in Microstation it tells you which other drawings it is referincing in, and we could see it being brought in. Even then it didnt appear, but adjusting the 'view clip region' (or something like that!) made it show up. Saving this and opening it again in ACAD made it show up.
Downside - i still havent figured out how to get this to work with ACAD.

This error is still occuring. It's causing a major resource overhead every time we issue plan layout dwgs in having to manually 'stitch' autocad dwgs together for issue to consultants.
Has anyone experienced this and found a workaround ?
Thanks.

just in case you haven't found a solution... try exporting as a dxf then open in autocad.
good luck,

The trick is that you can't have a crop region then it will work.

I just ran into this problem today, turning off the far clip active settings did the trick.
