I am working on a theater where I have a balcony floor that was created as an in-place sweep. I would like to create a railing that is hosted by the floor sweep, so it will slope with the stepping of the balcony. When I create the railing, it does not let me select the floor sweep as a host. Does anyone know of a trick to accomplish this? Thanks.

I would use the floor to host the rail and offset the rail from the floor edge.
I hope this helps.

Firmso,
Thanks for the tip, however I can't select the floor because it is a sweep, unless I am missing something.

Do you have to use a sweep to create the floor?
Can't you create the floor using the floor tool and pick that?
Normally sweeps are attached to floors, and so do Railings.
I hope this helps.

Unfortunately, the geometry of the floor is too complex for the floor tool. See the attached image for the condition.

Looks to me as if that floor can be created using the floor tool.
The workaround is you can create the railing by creating a Generic Model Family and load it into your project.

What about using the stair tool to create the stairs and then do the floors between the stairs. You might have to create a stair the match the floor construction for continuity. The floor can still be done in one sweep and then use voids to cut out the stair areas.

Looking back at this...
seems possible to create the balcony and the steps using the Stair tool.
Everything else using the Floor tool.
uhmm..
