Constraints without actions?

This may be a simple question but got me scratching my head.
How can I constrain two elements together without actually having performed an action on them first, like align, trim etc?
Sometimes, I forget to add a constraint while I'm working on them and I'd like to go back and add a constraint later.

Just select the item and a lock symbol should appear... lock as usual

Oor, try Grouping them.

Or just perform the align again and lock...

or dim from one object to the other and lock it (delete the dim and it will ask you if you want to keep the constraint)

I'm sure there are a million ways.
