View Full Version : Generic Annotation line - no Align?

Is it just me or can you NOT align an annotation line to another line?
I have a north arrow that I would like to align with a reference line in a titleblock and I cannot get it to go.

(Do I have to watch more of the Sapranos to understand these Families?)

Just what is the use of reference lines in a generic annotation symbol if I cannot get to it when I load the symbol in a template to use it.

It's just you ;)

Tried it and had no problem. You have the ref plane in the arrow family as a weak reference so the align tool can find it and I placed it in a tblock and could align it with any line on the page. Can you upload the tblock file too?

Then I am really missing something.

Here is the Tblock that I am using.

Did I miss something?

No it isn't just you, you cannot align an annotation line to another, nor an annotation reference line to another....it won't allow you...only the "define origin" will work for annotation symbols. As you already might have noticed a reference line from a titleblock is alignable, and so is the invisible line alignable....

But you can move and select any line from the annotation symbol, but not the reference line...

If you really want, you can move the origin from the middle to the bottom of the annotation symbol...if that is your prefernce as a standard in your documents....just move the reference plane from the middle to the bottom (or top) and you are done (unless you want to modify the vertical ref pl as well)

Peace,

By moving the origin do you mean move the symbol to the intersection of the original reference planes in the annotation template?

OK so here is the acad drawing that I am trying to use to create the title block and the right side aligned view title mark - yes a square and not on the left hand side.

OK so I can Move the mark that comes in on the right side but I still cannot align it with anything.

I am confused by your last post...sorry  The north arrow you uploaded is able to be used to align in the x direction and in the y direction....but only once for each direction...the north arrow is alignable in the middle....You can move the North arrow from a line (snapping to it) and then snapping to the titleblock reference line or invisible line....

If you want the North arrow to be alignable from the outer edge (bottom and right) then edit the north arrow family (no need to go to the soprano extent) and move the reference line from the middle to the edge you want to use to align (in your case bottom and right) and when you reload that annotation in your main file you will be able to align the edge of it....again, ifa different edge needs to be used to align with something, just use your snaps to move one edge to another.....

Your titleblock has all the reference lines alignable...

am I helping you or not?

you can either move the symbol or move the reference planes...which ever is simpler for you...

There is only one reference in the x direction and one for the y...it won't allow you to have multiple ones....

am I helping you or not?Well - POOP. I must be doing something wrong.
I try the Align tool in the A102 sheet of the attached default template and I cannot get it to work. (I hate my life tonight.)
Let me know if you can do this in this file.
Donnia

edit - ok so the file is too big to upload here. UNCLE - I give up tonight.
I need some rest.
Thanks all - let's do this againg tomorrow.

I actually tried your files...I loaded both the North arrow and the title block in an empty drawing and aligned the middle of your north arrow to the multiple reference lines in your titleblock.....are you aiming for the middle of the north arrow? That is where the north arrow has the reference planes, at least the one you uploaded....if it still doesn't work, can you reload both the north arrow and the titleblock in your project? create a new sheet and try aligning the north arrow to it....

Hmm...just a thought came to me...are you in a project aligning the north arrow? or are you aligning the north arrow in your titleblock ? It shouldn't matter, but I didn't try it that way....

I don't want to ask a silly question, so I hope you don't get mad....

do you have the north arrow symbol loaded in your titleblock family and then loaded in your project and then trying to align the north arrow? or are you loading both the titleblock and the north arrow individually in your project and then trying to align?

Peaceful, and friendly....Luigi

I am trying to align the arrow in a project.

I am actually going to bed tonight - back at it in the AM.

I would not ask if I would get mad dear. Never worry about that.
I am after all a newbie and supposed to be training on this stuff - scary I know.
Wish me well and say a prayer.

I've loaded your titleblock & then inserted the north point and the middle of the north point seems to want to snap to reference lines

I was loading them seperately - which is better?

loading them seperately into a project is correct...can you try loading them into a brand new project file? Maybe there is something screwy with your projject file...

Just open a new project, load the exact files you uploaded and see if it works...

paste the north arrow into the sheet....then hit align, then go to the title block reference line location and click it and then go to the north arrow, and the middle horizontal, or the middle vertical will highlight, once highlited click all done...
