View Full Version : Wall will not hold sketched profile

I have a curtain wall with a curved top and angled sides that I need to sketch to create properly. The problem is, everytime I attempt to create it, the actual version is different to what I have sketched which is unacceptable.
Please see attached images to see what I'm going on about... :)

It's really hard to tell what the problem might be...could you upload the wall, and curtain wall in question? Also, is there a wall perpendicular to the wall being cut out by the Curtain wall? It may cause confusion to the joining....
The file will help....if not me someone else...

At a guess without the rvt file, I would agree with Luigi, the problem you're seeing is because of the interaction between the basic wall and curtain wall. Always a tricky situation.. usually requires a fair amount of finesse.

Thanks guys - I've confirmed it must be a wall join issue. I deleted almost everything out of the file so I could post it up here and the problem went away. So now, to track down the offending join... (sigh)

I was having the exact same issue today....cutting arches into a wall by editing the wall profile. As soon as I finish the sketch, it would move and no longer be at the heights I want them to be.
So I just did an in-place void to cut the wall instead. Worked great. I did notice a peculiar thing though. I tried to create an in-place ceiling to line the underside of the arch and tried to use the pick tool. It wouldn't pick the edges of the cut wall. I even tried to draw model lines by picking these arches and it wouldn't work (workplane was set correctly). I find this to be quite odd.

Curious...
Just to create arched openings in the wall, or to fill the opening with something like curtain wall?
If so for the opening, why not an "opening" family (maybe because of rooms?). And if you're filling the opening, why not embed a curtain wall, and modify the sketch of the curtain wall. (I did this very successfully on a project, looked fantastic).
Thanks,

Robert,
No in my case just cutting openings in wall. It was just as fast to do an in-place void in this case. For the future I might just create a family to handle that, like I did for arched fur-downs/bulkheads (see attachment). I have actually edited the elevation profile of curtainwalls on this project to get a an arched window top (storefront windows) without any problems.

Have you disallowed wall joins at the ends of the curtain wall - or the adjoining wall?
I find I end up doing this almost every time I am using Curtain walls - though for some bizzare reason the fact that it is possible disallow wall joins in a curtain wall is another one of those secret things that Revit would rather you didnt know about!! You can only disallow wall joins on a curtain wall by right clicking on the blob at the end when you select the wall (the actual wall join tool does not work on curtain walls, but right clickng does let you do it??)
Might help?

Good tip...it is kinda hidden. I always do that on curtainwalls. I have no clue why curtainwalls would try to join in the first place!! Another weird join situation I have been noticing is in Generic Model line based families. I built some "wainscots" (see image attached above) and when placing a couple of these side by side, they join and clean up! Yet there's no way to disable joins. So if you wanted to leave 1" between two instances, you couldn't as the edges automatically attach to each other. Another one of those puzzlers :?
