Ok i've modelled the pipe - simple solid & void mass - its over 1m in diameter
Its over 200m long so there is a significant fall along the length and i want it to show in sections etc. we are building very close to it - and the surface levels need careful examination
Can peeps explain how i might achieve this - for what its worth i like to model things correctly and hence only once!

Easiest way is to do it as a sweep. This is one method but there are a number of ways to create your path.
In an elevation view parallel to your slope create a ref plane that follows the slope, name it. Go to a plan view, change your workplane to the named ref plane and then draw the path of the pipe in plan. Create your sweep by picking the line as your path and drawing the pipe diameter (easy to do that in a 3D view). Although it probably doesn't apply in your case, the advantage of doing it this way is that you can rotate the work plane and the sweep changes with it.

Create a two pick family for the pipe. Very easy to do...
Then just pick the workplane in the project and the start and end points of the pipe and bobs your uncle.
Assuming of course the pipe is straight?
If it varies an in-place family as per Dimitri's instructions is the simplest method, provided you don't have revit systems that is... :)

Hi
How will you see the pipe in elevation if you have a topo surface?
Is there anyway except cutting through it with elevation?
Thanx

you could just draw a detail line to represent the ground level then switch off the topography with visibility graphics...this way you will see all the below ground objects

Or use the linework tool on the edges of the pipe, so that they show through the topo poche.

Cool thanx will try that
