split problem

i've split a few tile walls before to create some custom pattern and was able to assign different materials. my problem now is when i do it again, it deletes the top of the wall. i just want to split it so i can assign materials on both sides.

what i'm i doing differently this time?

sorry, i had isolated my tile objects and whenever i would split it, the other half would actually become hidden and was not actually being deleted.

Are you using the Paint tool to change the material patterns in th eSplit wall areas?

i thought about that but i think id prefer multiple tile walls colors/options so i can actually quantify it. it also helps to verify if our estimator estimated too much or too little for it.
