Does anyone have experience creating residential foundation plans? I've created the slab to the house and added the thickened edge I need. My problem is showing everything I need in plan, I want to show the edge of slab with the thickened edge below as a dotted line. No matter how I adjust my view range though I cant seem to get the affect I want. Is what I want to do not possible?

We do concrete layout plans and will only show the slab with rebates and beams if needed. You can use detail lines that you lock to the beams in wireframe and then set view to hidden lines after. That will make the lines move when you move the beams.

try using the linework tool.in the toolbars it looks like an old style fountain pen. once you select it you will see from the drop down list different line types (as loaded into your project). select a hidden type (or create your own) and select the slab edge lines. they will now take on the line properties and show hidden.

Works great for overhangs too. just set your underlay to your roof plan, and linework the roof edge to be hidden, turn off your underlay, and the hidden roof edge stays in the view!

Hope this helps

I just did a res. foundation plan yesterday....fun..:| But when I create these, I use the previously mentioned tool, the 'linework' tool. Once I have my thickened edge in place, I select the linework tool, select 'hidden lines', and hover over where the thickened edge ...edge is and select, you will see your 'hidden line' appear. This works fairly well and is actually pretty quick. I have made a thickened edge with an adjustment in there for top thickness in case I have a deeper topo in an area or two and need to get the edge a little deeper without showing the 'gravel' layer I have in my slab, so sometimes the edge of the 'thickened' edge is in a little further on my slab than I like, but that's never dimensioned or really payed attention to anyway, so it's fine with me. Hope this helps.

We use filters:

I have been trying the "Lines" tool as some of you mentioned but I can't seem to get this to work properly. I draw my lines on the plane of the first floor but I can only see them when I hide the floor slab.

When model objects are hiding lines you are probably using model lines. Try detail lines.

That worked, thanks to all for their input.
