The IT guys have just loaded BS2005 on XP Pro on a standalone license workstation. All works fine unitl the network is enabled to retive files. The network is a mix of WIndowsNT/novell client, NT Servers & Novelle Servers.
They are enabling the Windows networking that comes with XP Pro.
If networking is disabled, then BS is enabled, then enable windows networking, all is fine. If the network is enabled frst, then BS will not execute.
The server has currently AutoCAD 2002 with 4 other seats & LMTool for those licences and two other standalone licences of BS2002 retrive files currently.

Has anyone else run into similar problems with loading 2005??

thanks

I have heard of issues with 2005 and .NET services
causing 2005 not to install across the network.
There is a link on AutoDesk's site that reffers to a
network patch for 2005, only if one follows it, it
takes you to a page for 2004??? So I wont post it here,
perhaps pester your vendor for it.

Please take a look at Tech Doc TS84445 on the Autodesk support site. If that doesn't solve the problem with the network please post back.

sorry for the delay in responding, technical document procedure worked like a charm, thanks.

I must learn to search autodesk support on a broader base - my first search resulted in information that did not apply.
thanks for the help

As to your need to master searching the Knowledge Base I have responded to many
off-line questions as to how to best use that resource.

Through my use of the Knowledge Base, I have developed this procedure:

Enter as few words as possible

Ignore the version and or product that the document is written for.
This is due to the fact that all of the products are based on AutoCAD,
and that often a solution from a previous release will fix that same problem
for the current release. Because AutoDesk did not fix the problem
before repackaging the product and selling to us as 'new'.

Case in point many of us are unhappy with the quick succession of 'new'
products; as in 2004 and then much to soon 2005.
A thorough search of the knowledge base will reveal that 2004 was
released with the promise of new features. Truth is, the application
was released mostly to be compatible with Windows XP.
And the motivation for the release of 2005 is to enable hardware activation;
not to give the user increased funtionality or to remove previous 'bugs'.

Truth is...
When stated that way, the "truth" is rarely ever that simple. You may want to use the IMHO expression instead.

Ok, point taken.

The truth may not be simple, however the truth is immutable.
