View Full Version : More shadow goofiness

Well, I was bummed to find that the "camera in shadow" bug that was seemingly introduced in 8.1 was not fixed in 9.1, and today I ran into another shadow issue. But perhaps this is not a bug, so much as as "as designed, but wrong IMHO".
Anyway, it seems that windows don't cast shadows in plan. Specifically window frames. Now this is only moderately goofy when you just have a simple single window, but when you gang windows together, I fully expect to see a shadow cast by that big ol' mullion created by the joined frames. But seemingly not so, as you can see in the attachment.
So, am I missing some setting that would allow for more complex shadows? Or is this as intended, and perhaps the Factory should reconsider? Or is this indeed a bug? Anyone have any insight?

Thanks,
Gordon

Be sure the mullion is actually a solid piece of geometry and not just a symbolic line. Also check to make sure that the geometry has visibility set to plan view

Ah ha, the old 2D in plan, 3D in 3D trick! I had not thought of that being done in a window. Furniture sure, but a window? I have a few days of unrestricted Revit play coming, I think I need to break open just about every family I can.

Thanks,
Gordon

Yes, if you have time to go through families I would highly suggest doing it. Although getting standards and families done for any company is labor intensive and EXTREMELY time consuming, but in the long run it helps save time with issues such as the one you had here.

Good Luck,
