Tying Model Lines to Family Types

I am trying to create a pile cap family. What I want to do is to be able to show a fill region where the pile will sit under the pile cap. However, because the number of piles, and location of piles underneath the pile cap changes every time, I want to link the model lines of the pile to only that particular family type. Does anyone know if this is possible? I am running RS4, and have attached the pile cap family file. Any help is appreciated in advance

To get a filled region you can create a detail component and load it into your pile family. The detail component would just be a circle or square filled region.


I want to link the model lines of the pile to only that particular family type. I am not sure what you are trying to do here. Could you explain this? If you mean you want the filled region to change size or change anything else based on the pile cap type, you can set-up parametrics in the detail component. Also using reference planes in both the pile cap family and the detail component family you can keep everything lined up.
