I've drawn a two story wall that is block on the first floor, and frame on the second floor. How do I get rid of the line that shows up at the joint between the walls when viewed in elevation?

I've already tried that and it didn't work. Is there any other way to do it?

Are you sure that the two wall faces are exactly in the same plane? A minor error here had us pulling our hair out for a while, the Align tool solved that.

Make sure you have the exterior sides of both walls facing the exterior. This can be tough to see if surface hatch is not visible, so I usually just check in plan for the flip arrows (they should be on the outside)

Also, this may seem obvious, but the materials on the exterior are the same for both walls, right?

If it didn't work, then it probably means your exterior wall finish isn't exactly aligned. Cut a section and make sure it's lined up properly, and adjust if necessary. Typically if I were doing such a project with different framing but the same exterior finish, I would always draw the walls using the exterior core face and making sure those line up between stories.

If it still doesn't want to join correctly even if they are lined up, and everything on the exterior side of the core layer is the same on both wall types, then you can always use the Linework tool in your elevation.

This is very important! I had a model and the second floor did not line up becuase I had done the wall at centerline and not exterior face of core. There are several things to look for such as alignment, exterior wall make up, etc.

Thanks for all the help guys, after cutting many sections and aligning all my walls it finally worked. I also found several walls that were not sset to bearing and they wouldn't join until both walls were either bearing on non-bearing.

Thanks for giving us the feedback on what you ended up doing Bill - it's always good to get confirmation on the advice that is offered.......

I have had the same problem before and most of the time it has been taken care of by some of the methods mentioned above. The one I still have problems with and can't take care of it sometimes is the vertical joins between two walls that was previously one wall that was split, to accomodate a shear wall or something. Same wall, all aligned, same finishes etc., but a vertical join between them even with joined geometry. I usually end up using the linework tool.
