View Full Version : 750c Plus HP out of alignment... but not really

I have recently been getting these error messages that my black ink cartridge might be out of alignment, and I should turn off the plotter and fix it.
I turn off the plotter and turn it back on. It works as it should without any fiddling from me.
The drawings that had spooled on the printer have been forgotten (I am plotting via a sheet set, so I have to go through, open the drawings that hadn't been plotted and just plot them individually)
This has been happening about once a day and it is driving me nutz. Just in case it was the cartridge, I replaced it, but, I don't want to do it again, they are nowhere near dry and I can't afford to just toss them.
Does anyone know something I can do about this.
Also, does this question go under plotting or hardware?

A search of the HP site indicates that you are not alone,
however there is no posted solution.
I suggest some electrical contact cleaner applied correctly
to clean the docking station where those cartridges rest.
Being watchful of anything that appears to be an optical sensor.
Clean that for sure. Perhaps even a few stategic shots of air might
free up the dust rhino blocking the view.
That or run a few of the confidence test, ond or a clean cartridges
routine from the front panet, or the HP Tool-kit software if loaded.

MJ, thanks for the reply.
I have some compressed air that I use to clean my copier with, I'll try that and see if it helps.
Can you tell me a little more about electrical contact cleaner, I am unfamiliar with that.
I did try a clean cartridge test last week on my previous cartridge, but, I will try it again with this one just in case.

Well back in the day of switches and knobs
there was a product called contact cleaner, it was
an aresol solvent to remove the crud that caused
all the static and such as one adjusted the knob.
I believe it was all so non-conductive.
Probably still available.

Have you tried running a printhead alignment diagnostic? You can access it from the plotter menu system.
Also, you can remove the black print nozzle and wipe the contacts on both the printhead and carraige with a dry cloth or dry screen wipe. Sometimes just re-seating the printhead fixes the glitch.

I atchley haven't used the plotter much lately, so I haven't tried anything on it yet. Aside from reseating the cartridge. I have, in the past cleaned the contacts with an eraser, as one of the old engineers told me to do. I did do an alignment on the first cartridge I had the problem with. It didn't help, I might try it again with this newer one.
Thanks everyone for your help!
