material advice

would you guys advise deleting the materials? My boss wants to get them out of the project to prevent slowing down the project.

Have any of you deleted materials that you don't use? What happens if I delete a material that is in use- will it give me a warning?

I'm not sure if deleting the materials would save you that much space. I (Think) the materials are not part of the file size. I believe the program brings in those materials only when rendering. But i am not 100% sure about that. But... I would try purging the project first to get rid of families you are not using. That for sure would help speed it up and make it faster.

Also, i have deleted materials before and it doesn't give you a warning first. But if you have something with that material you deleted, it will just show up grey the next time you render. Just like if a material folder gets moved and you dont repath the material to the new location.
