Cannot cut geometry with void and beam structure

When attempting to cut a structural beam with a void, cut geometry tool does grab the void but not the beam. This would be essential to trim the beam all the way down to the soffit. Any ideas how to resolve this issue are welcome.

You can't cut a structural beam in a project you have to do it in the beam family. Open up the beam family and make sure you make a different type so that it wont affect othes without cut then creat your void and use cut geometry.

This is true. Structural beams do not act like most objects in Revit. The best way to manipulate them is in the family itself.
