Lamps but no ceiling

I have got several rooms in a project that are going to have unfinished ceilings but are going to have 2x4 light fixtures suspended from the structure above. How do I put a light component in without a ceiling in the room? I sure hope this is possible...

Perhaps you could create a transparent ceiling type that will still show structure above?

If that doesn't work you will need to create an un-hosted light family that looks the same as the regular ceiling-hosted 2x4 fixture family.

Would I go about doing that in the family editor by unlocking the light object from the ceiling reference plane? I have just gotten my feet wet with editing families and am still trying to familiarize with the way things work.
