Have any of you done this. I know that a dgn templete file can be used to do this, but where do I create one. Is there a setting to change the lineweights to 0 when they come into Microstation? Thanks for the help.

Under File, Import/Export Setting, select Export Layers DGN. Adjust your setting save your file.

Then when you export your file at the bottom of the dialogue box under Export Layers File select Browse... and select the file you saved.

Raf,

Just don't bother to try using the ENABLE TEMPLATE option for dgn seed files. It doesn't work. I used the following steps:

For trade backgrounds:

Export Revit view to dgn (using the export file(s) Christie mentions)
In MS, drop status on all elements in the export file to kill grouped elements and "cells" (refer to my warning below)
Create a new empty file from a seed file
Reference your dgn export to the new file
Merge the file(s) to collapse the export into your seed file
For DGN submission to clients:

Export the views like above, not sheet views, plan views etc...
setup up Microstation based titleblocks instead
Reference finished sheet views without the titleblock into native MS sheets. (this seems like a hassle, try it the other way, you'll come around)
Regarding the export, reference and merge process: Beware, if you do this again to update and just reference the new export to replace and merge new work you will have problems with objects changing strangely. This is because Revit uses the same object id numbers when exporting. For example: element ID 1 in your previous export might have been doors...but the next time element ID 1 is a window type...next thing you know the doors are now windows. Very fun!!!

Before I left town Raf, I set up several different export files all suffixed with BDA and descriptions like Existing, New, Elevation etc....hey! Didn't we cover this??? ;-) I set up the files so you could export backgrounds for MEP and have everything screened. Then you just change level symbology per trade to bold up their stuff. You also need to export phase specific views separately to reassemble so walls are on separate levels per office standards (demo, exist, new)

(if you haven't figured it out...I used to work with Raf...)
