Initial far clip setting for sections?

I'm wondering what determines where the far clip is situated when you first draw a section line? Seems like sometimes it will show up just past the exterior wall of the building (when I do a building section), but other times it extends wayyyyy out past the building. And then other times the far clip extends out only a few feet.

It's not a big deal really, I was just curious as to what determines the placement of the far clip plane.
