View Full Version : Linetype control when exporting to Autocad?

I apologize since this is probably a really, really simple question but I couldn't find it addressed in any thread. Is there a way to control linetypes when exporting to cad? In all the time that I've been exporting out of Revit I never noticed that all linetypes convert to continuous (ie,column grid lines export as continuous rather than cenline). Feel free to let me know if I'm a total dope and missed something fundamental (but please answer the question first!)

David,

Go to File>Import/Export Settings> and Export Layers DWG/DWF make a custom setting or use the AIA standard.

Does that help?

This only allows you to set the layer name and color (again, unless I'm missing something).

You're right David, you can only set the layer name and color, but no linetype. But I think your exports are fine....

Revit exports the linetypes as they appear in the views. The problem is that your exported dwg file has the "ltscale" variable set to 1. Bump that up to 48 (we set ltscale to half the scale, so for 1/8" views (96) we set it to 48 ) or some other value that works for you and you should see the linetypes correctly. I haven't messed around much with the linetype scaling option (in the export dialog, click options and you'll see this option; there are 3 things to choose from) but this would probably solve your problem without having to manually change the ltscale in each exported dwg.

Yeah, I forgot about that whole ltscale thing (I rarely touch cad anymore). BUT, it doesn't work for the grid lines. For some reason the linetype assigned to the System Family:Grids does not export to cad. It keeps exporting as continuous (at least on my pc it does). I've tried changing the linetype in the grid family and no matter what I select it still exports continuous. Do your grids export correctly? Are you aware of any setting I'm overlooking? This is freakin' me out.

Sorry for the late reply.

Yes my grid lines export fine and I only have to mess with ltscale. And I'm assuming you're applying a regen afterwards, correct? What is the linetype of the S-Grid layer (or whatever you have defined for gridlines) showing up as in the dwg? Also, when you select the gridline in the dwg, the properties say "continuous" ?

We're using a gridline with the following settings:
Dash - 1/4"
Space - 1/16"
Dash - 1/16"
Space - 1/16"
