View Full Version : Clear the "recent" sheet sets fly-out menu

Hello out there, :)

I'm trying to answer a question that appeared on the French forum, and I wondered if someone could help out finding it a solution:
How can one clear clear the "recent" sheet sets menu from the "open" tab on top of the sheet set manager window?
(I guess that could be useful for the curious ones who like to poke their nose about where it doesn't belong in their office's files....;))

Thanks for any answer, that would help me stir the French forum threads a bit...

Perhaps a registry cleaning utility that clears recent files lists would do this?

Hi "Moudjai" ( Sorry, I do not know your real name )

Please note I have *moved* this thread from the AutoCAD Customization (http://forums.augi.com/forumdisplay.php?f=118) forum to this one, as I feel this particular forum is a more appropriate place for such a topic.

Thanks, Mike

hmmmm, this would be an interesting thing to do when one is troubleshooting new SSM templates and you don't want all the trial/junk recent ones to be visible.

I don't have Autocad in front of me at the moment, but one idea would be to check in <drive>:\Documents and Settings\<login name>\Application Data\Autodesk\<product>\<version>\<language>\Recent\ and see if there is a directory there that contains those shortcuts. I'll have to check tomorrow.

Nope, that wasn't it.

I also searched my hard drive for files that contained the name of one of the items in my list and didn't find it there either. Same with the registry.

Where the heck do they store that info? I give up.

Windows maintains most `recent files' lists but I don't use sheet sets so can't swear that that list is the same.

Maybe THIS (http://discussion.autodesk.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4856786) would be of some help, but what a scary edit (messing with fixedprofile.aws) it would be. I would definitely back it up. It would take someone with more knowledge than I have right now.

I wonder why it didn't show up in my hard drive search?

I'll try it if I can find a bit of spare time (unless someone interested in the topic finds out how it works before I do...) & I'll do the translation for the French forum...
Or perhaps someone knows a safer way to do it? Or a CAD-geek (God bless the serial-customizers ;)...) might have written a purpose-made LISP that would do the job?...
Have a good one

Good point to this thread. AutoCad should dump the recently used sheet set list.
I have some trouble when I accidently click on a recently used set that I have
since deleted. AutoCad loves to freeze up while trying to find the deleted files.

Because of:

from Beau Turner at the Adesk forums:
~snip~
It is technically possible to tweak this using VB/Lisp
provided you parse the file and remove the values but this must be done
without AutoCAD/ADT running as the file is stored in memory when AutoCAD/ADT
is running and is written back when exiting.~snip~

I think this would have to be accomplished prior to firing Autocad. One thought I had was to edit a copy of fixedprofile.aws and save it as, say, fixedprofile.bak, then write a batch file to launch AutoCAD that would copy the .bak file over fixedprofile.aws.

This could cause problems with other settings, though, because when the file is replaced, it also replaces any other changes. You would have to remember to copy fixedprofile.aws to the .bak and remove the information again. It kind of seems like a maintenance nightmare.

Maybe there is a VBA solution, instead? I don't know enough about it to attempt something like this. Maybe this thread should be moved to the VBA forum or something for their input.

My "recent files" list in SSM just gets longer and longer, but seems to add a new file only when it feels like it. Autodesk, what is going on here?

I didn't clear the entire list, but while I was playing with SSM, I added one with a really long file name, and it was screwing me up when using the recent selection. I really don't remember why. I did however manage to remove it from the list. I also used this to rename a .dst file in the recent list. Although there should be an option at the bottom of the recent list to clear all or right click on an individual one and choose remove.

move/delete/rename the .dst file
(not sure if it matters, but I didn't have the dst file open in the SSM at this point)

use the recent list to try to open it and you should get (or at least I do):
Sheet Set Manager Error
Cannot find the specified file.
Please verify that the file exists.
