Hello everybody,
I am trying to create a roof that is elliptical in plan, 'folded' along the long axis so that the short axes slope up 10 degrees. I did this quite easily by creating one half of the roof then mirroring. My problem is that I would like to slope the valley along it's length. Any ideas?

Make the roof as a rectangular in plan piece, as an extrusion. Make it on a workplane that is set to your angle. Then use a void in a large "donut" shape with an ellipse in the center and a larger rectangle shape on the outside to "cut" the roof into the shape needed.

Could he not just create the eliptical roof while the workplane is set to a sloped reference plane?

hmmm.....maybe. Try it! For me, it was easier to build the roof by extrusion, then cut out the shape. But either way should work.

Nevermind you can only set work planes to Levels for a roof sketch, when it's by footprint anyway.
However you can make that roof as a single object by sketching an ellipse, then drawing slope arrows on each side, pointing to each other, and set their slopes to a negative value.

Thanks Scott,
I'm kinda glad it was not a real simple answer (making me look a bit thick), but then again I wish it was a real simple answer. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with in place solids as a solution to this kind of situation, I just wish we had a bit more control. Sketch line to a user defined workplane or even being able to rotate the object after creation would do for now!
Nice one with the slope arrows, Patricks. However I could only get this to work with a horizontal valley. I would like to be able to add another slope arrow to define the slope of the valley, seems logical to me.
Thanks all.
