Hello experienced CAD gurus,

I have a problem with saving .DWG files from the web. At SOME sites, when I get a "DOWNLOAD DWG" button, when I click that Internet Explorer pops-up a drawing viewer that will not allow any kind of right click saving and has no command for saving the file.

How do I disable this accursed viewer so I can get the "SAVE, SAVES" dialogue box?

Thanks,

Stephen

Right click on the file link, and choose "Save Target As..." from the context menu.

That has been tried, and neither in the drawing viewer nor on the download button itself is a context menu available that offers the "saveas" option.

You should be able to right click on the download button itself and choose "Save Target As".

Nope.... It's quite frustrating. If you really want to me to demonstrate, I can send a screen shot.

Please copy the link you are using. Then I can try it on my end.

I am on the Bimba Cylinder CAD download page. Here is a link to the selection page.

You'll have to do a few selections to get to an actual download screen.

My guess is you'll be able to download with no problem. Other people in my company can. It seems to be something on just my computer, but I was hoping someone else had experienced the same problem and found a quick cure. Anyway...here is the link. You can pick any category of cylinder to download.

If you happen to use it at all, I have the same problem on McMaster Carr's website.

Thanks,

Steve

Richard, I hope you don't mind me stepping in here...

Stephen, I looked at the link, and as you said you cannot right click on the button. If I understand you correctly, you are just clicking the "Download DWG" button and it is opening up in a viewer.

I believe there are two things you can do to fix this problem:

Open "My Computer"
Click Tools > Folder Options
Select the File Types tab.
Scroll down to the .DWG extension type.
Select the .DWG extension type, then click Advanced.
Check the "Confirm open after download" check box, then click OK.

Doing the above should now bring up the box that will allow you to download and save .DWG files when you left click on the button.

Also, in the same dialog box, above the Advanced button you should see your AutoCAD application as the default for opening a .DWG
If you see this mysterious viewer there instead, click the change button and select the correct program.

Hope that helps!

I was so hoping that was it.

I tried your advice, but the viewer still comes up.

I am beginning to wonder if Voloview has something to do with it.

Thank you all for your efforts.

You might try uninstalling voloview and installing the latest "Express Viewer" solution.

Did you get as far as this graphic shows? This was after the "Download" button. In the graphic you can see that I can right click on the dwg link and choose "Save Target As"
